CHICAGO (Monday, March 4, 2002) - Nearly 150 coaches attended a U.S. Soccer Region IV ODP Symposium in Seattle, Wash., this weekend that was held conjunction with the U.S. Men's National Team match against  Honduras on Saturday afternoon. The symposium offered coaches a rare chance to witness a Men's National Team practice and interact with the U.S. Men's National Team coaching staff.

The highlight of the weekend came on Friday, when the coaches were allowed to observe the USA's pre-game practice at Safeco Field.  Following the training session, U.S. head coach Bruce Arena spent nearly half an hour talking with the coaches.  Arena addressed the upcoming game against Honduras and looked ahead to the World Cup.  He also spoke about team dynamics and discussed some of the issues facing the team in their pre-World Cup preparations.

Dave Sarachan and Glenn Myernick, Arena's two assistants, provided insight to 150 coaches in attendance at  a coaching session on Friday evening, where they previewed Saturday's match against Honduras and addressed the team's plans for the run up to Korea/Japan.

Myernick returned to speak to the coaches following the USA's 4-0 win, holding an in-depth post-game discussion with the coaches that included a question-and-answer session about the match.

Fifty of the participating coaches used the weekend coaching symposium to earn U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Unit (CEU) credits toward their "A" license renewal.

The U.S. topped Honduras 4-0 in front of 38, 534 fans at Safeco in Seattle, Wash., with Landon Donovan and Clint Mathis each scoring two goals in the win. The U.S. MNT next faces Ecuador on March 10 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., in a match that will be broadcast live on ABC and Telemundo at 3 p.m. CT.
