U.S. Soccer Coaching Symposium Held in Conjunction With U.S. Women's National Team Final Send-Off Series Game in Advance of 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup

- 'A' Licensed Coaches Earn Two CEUs

CHICAGO (August 16, 2007) – Coaches around the nation will have one final opportunity to interact with some of the best minds in soccer prior to the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The U.S. Soccer Coaching Department is staging a coaching symposium on Aug. 24-25 in conjunction with the U.S. Women’s National Team’s final Send-Off Series match against Finland on Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for coaches at every level to get first hand access into the preparation for a World Cup,” said Bob Jenkins, U.S. Soccer’s Director of Coaching and Youth Development. “You’ve got the best team in the world and their coaches dissecting their preparation just days before the Women’s World Cup begins. This is a unique opportunity for coaches in the United States.”

Participating coaches will attend sessions covering such topics as: Women’s World Cup preparation, Completing the American Soccer Player and U.S. Soccer’s Under-20 and Under-15 National Team programs. 

The symposium is hosted by U.S. Soccer Region I National Staff Coach Jeff Pill and presenters include U.S. WNT head coach Greg Ryan, U-20 WNT head coach Jillian Ellis, U-15 GNT head coach Tad Bobak, National Staff Instructor and former WUSA coach Carlos Juarez and U.S. Soccer and FIFA referee Jennifer Bennett, who was selected to officiate at the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China.

Cost for the symposium is $70 for active U.S. Soccer CoachesNet members and $85 for non-members. Registration includes a ticket to the game, access to WNT training and current National Team coaches and a question and answer session with head coach Greg Ryan. Coaches also receive a personalized symposium packet with a limited edition 2007 World Cup handbook, a Best Practices booklet and a gift from Kwik Goal. Registration is open to all coaches. “A” licensed coaches will earn two Continuing Education Units for attending the two-day symposium.

Registration begins at 11a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, at The Home Depot Center. A detailed schedule with finalized times and locations will be available the week of the symposium.

A special $99 per night hotel rate has been secured at the Doubletree Hotel in Carson, Calif. Coaches should reference “U.S. Soccer Coaching Symposium” to receive the special rate. Space is limited and coaches are encouraged to reserve rooms soon.
