2004 U.S. Open Cup Qualifying - A-League

8 Teams (qualifying through May 23)

Qualifiers - Round 3: Atlanta Silverbacks, Charleston Battery (2003 League Champ), Minnesota Thunder (2003 League Finalist), Portland Timbers, Richmond Kickers, Rochester Raging Rhinos
Qualifiers - Round 2: Syracuse Salty Dogs, Virginia Beach Mariners

Qualifying Breakdown

Based on the Tournament Format for the 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, there will be eight (8) qualification slots for the ten (10) U.S.-based A-League teams. All Primary Qualifiers and the top Secondary Qualifier enter in the Third Round. The two remaining Secondary Qualifiers enter in the Second Round.

The primary qualifiers will be the winners of a two-leg, aggregate goal series predetermined by geography. If the score is tied after the two matches, penalty kicks will determine which teams advance. Those matches are:

Richmond v. Virginia Beach

Richmond advances 3-1 / VB Advances as Secondary Qualifier

Charleston v. Atlanta

Atlanta advances 4-2 / Charleston advances as 2003 League Champ

Portland v. Seattle

May 1 Portland Timbers 2, Seattle Sounders 1

Portland advances 3-1

Milwaukee v. Minnesota

Rochester advances 2-1 / Syracuse advances on Secondary Qualifier

The final three qualifiers are secondary and the remaining berths will be allocated as follows:

	2003 A-League Champion (Charleston)
	2003 A-League Finalist (Minnesota)
	Non-qualifier with highest Point Percentage (total league points earned divided by total possible league points) in all matches played on or before Sunday May 23rd with at least three league games played
	Non-qualifier with 2nd highest Point Percentage (total league points earned divided by total possible league points) in all matches played on or before Sunday May 23rd with at least three league games played
	Non-qualifier with 3rd highest Point Percentage (total league points earned divided by total possible league points) in all matches played on or before Sunday May 23rd with at least three league games played
